Marsh marigold (Caltha palustris)
This bright yellow flower can be found growing in wetland and the waterlogged soil around ponds and drainage ditches.
The plant has been historically used in may day celebrations as a decorative may flower and is considered an omen of good luck on the Isle of Man, when blooming in early spring.
Whilst technically edible the plant must be repeatedly boiled to remove irritating defensive chemicals before eating.
