Small inkcaps (Genus Parasola)

These mushrooms are one of two extremely similar species, "Parasola auricoma" the goldenhaired inkcap or "Parasola plicatilis" the pleated inkcap.

Found accross the northern hemisphere from Europe and North America to Japan, These species look so alike that they can only be definitively distinguished with a microscope.

The goldenhaired inkcap is more likely to be found growing in the shade of woodland, much like these mushrooms here.

Neither mushroom is useful to humans. Both are brief and fleeting in their occurrence, shooting up after rain they will last only a few days. Aiding the breakdown of detritus in the soil.
